The eligibility criteria did not change. The 2026 allocation for all entrepreneur streams combined is 60 nominations.

In 2026, Alberta is prioritising health care, technology, construction, manufacturing, aviation, agriculture, and communities designated under the Rural Renewal Stream. What is the Eligibility Criteria for Alberta PNP

The eligibility criteria differ by stream. The main criteria for Alberta PNP are given below.
 

• Work Experience: At least 12 months of full-time work in a qualifying job within the past year and a half (Alberta Opportunity Stream).
• Schooling: A Canadian high school diploma, or its equivalent, is needed (Alberta Opportunity Stream).
• Language Skills: A minimum of CLB 4 or CLB 5, depending on the TEER level of the occupation. Some pathways require higher scores.
• CRS Score: Alberta Express Entry Stream candidates need an Express Entry profile with a CRS score of 300 or more.
• Job Opportunity: Some programs need a legitimate job offer from an employer in Alberta for a job that qualifies.
• Intent to reside: Applicants must show they plan to live and work in Alberta.

• Education: Certificates, diplomas, degrees, and Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) reports are needed.
• Language Proficiency: Provide your IELTS, CELPIP, PTE Core, TEF Canada or TCF Canada scores.
• Work History: Include reference letters from past employers that list your job duties and how long you worked there.
• Job Offer: If the Alberta stream you are applying for needs you to have a job, include your job offer letter.
• Business Strategy: If you are applying for an entrepreneur stream, give a business strategy that includes your business goals and money estimates.
• Financial Proof: Bank statements or other papers that show you have enough money to settle in Alberta.
• Other Documents: Include police certificates, medical exam results, a Use of Representative form if you have a representative, and other items the AAIP asks for.

 

How to Apply for Alberta PNP?

The application procedure for Alberta PNP is given below:

Step 1: Check eligibility for your chosen stream (AOS, Rural Renewal, Tourism & Hospitality, Express Entry, etc.).
Step 2: Submit a Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) and pay the CAD $135 fee within 24 hours. Express Entry stream candidates must also keep a valid Express Entry profile.
Step 3: Monitor your email for an invitation to apply. AAIP selects candidates in draws based on WEOI scores (out of 100) and provincial priorities.
Step 4: If invited, start your application within 15 days, then complete, submit and pay the CAD $1,500 fee within 30 days.
Step 5: Receive nomination and apply to IRCC for permanent residence under the Provincial Nominee class.

Can You Include Family Members?

Yes, applicants can include their spouse or common-law partner and dependent children in their AAIP application, so long as these family members meet all medical and security requirements. When included, these family members are able to get permanent residency with the main applicant.
 

Pathway to Canadian PR and Citizenship

If you get nominated by the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), you can then apply for Canada PR with IRCC. If you are nominated through an Express Entry stream, you will get an extra 600 points on your CRS score, which greatly improves your chances of getting an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

To become a Canadian citizen after getting PR, you need to live in Canada for at least three years out of five. During those years, you also have to meet certain requirements related to residency, language skills, and filing taxes before you can apply for citizenship through IRCC.
 

Extension, Renewal, or Switching Streams

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) does not renew expired nominations. But, if you have not sent your permanent residence application to IRCC, you can ask for a one-time, 6-month extension of your nomination certificate. This request has to be done before the nomination expires. You will also need a valid reason, like delays in getting the papers you need.

Once your application is being processed, you cannot switch between AAIP streams (for example, from Alberta Opportunity Stream to Express Entry). If things change, you might have to withdraw your application and reapply under a different stream.
