Job description

The construction project manager is the ultimate authority on the development and completion of construction projects. They are responsible for all project planning and scheduling, resource allocation, project accounting and control. They lend their knowledge with technical direction and they are also responsible for making sure that the job is in compliance with quality standards. The responsibilities of the construction project manager cover all areas of project management, including project planning, time management, contract administration, cost management, quality management and safety management. They spend their time charting out project objectives and plans, setting performance requirements and the participants in the project. They negotiate contracts with construction crews to get the best work at a reasonable price.

Construction project manager create and assign teams and provide those teams with objective and goals. They must play a role in project planning, budgeting, and identification of what resources will be needed for the project; then, they must acquire necessary resources at the best price, as well as apply and obtain all permits and licensing required for the project. Finally, the construction project manager serves as liaison between the construction teams, architects, designers, owners and stakeholders.

Educational requirements

Most companies look for the construction project manager to have a bachelor’s degree in building science, construction management or civil engineering, along with five years of work experience as an intern, craft worker, or supervisor. A master’s degree will help open doors to the large construction companies.

The pay scale of a construction project manager ranges between AUD$60,454 – AUD$168,647 and the median being AUD$101,570.
